Film Actress Friday: Eva Marie Saint

This week features actress is Eva Marie Saint. This week a friend in my Beauty school class found out she is expecting a daughter and she is naming her Ava Marie. Instead of featuring the obvious choice Ava Gardner, I wanted to talk about Eva Marie Saint. After all, I loved her in North by Northwest with my favorite man Cary Grant. She has had a career of longevity in both television and film.

-Eva Marie Saint was born in 1924 in the same state as me, New Jersey
-She studied acting at Bowling Green State University, there is a theater on campus named after her
-Her first feature film was 1954's "On the Waterfront" directed by Elia Kazan and starring Marlon Brando
-She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and a British Academy of Film and Television award for Most Promising Newcomer
-In 1957 she was nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA for her work in "A Hatful of Rain"
-She was chosen in 1959 to star in Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" opposite Cary Grant and James Mason
-"North by Northwest" ranks 40 on the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time
-Through the 60s' she acted in movies with actors such as Paul Newman, Warren Beatty, Elizabeth Taylor
-In the 70s' she played Cybil Shepherd's mother in Moonlighting, and she was nominated for 2 Emmy's for How the West Was Won and Taxi!!!
-She returned to the movies in 1986 to play Tom Hanks mother in "Nothing in Common"
-In 1990 she won her first Emmy for "People Like Us"
-In the 2000s' she appeared in: "I Dreamed of Africa", "Don't Come Knocking", "Because of Winn-Dixie", and "Superman Returns"
-She has been married to her husband since 1951, they have 2 children, and 3 grandchildren
-In 2009 she was a presenter at the Academy Awards ceremony for Best Supporting Actress
