CFW Designer of the Year Show

The Cork Fashion Week Designer of the Year show last night was amazing! It is the most talked about and hotly-anticipated show of the week and the roof top venue was simply breathtaking. I went along with fellow blogger Blau from Blaubushka, as the sun set before our eyes, we took our seats, West Coast Coolers in hand, and waited for the show to start.

The panel of judges included fashion writer and stylist Annmarie O'Connor, fashion editor for the Evening Echo Emma Connolly, L'il C Couture designer Claire O'Connor and top Irish designer Mia O'Connell.

The show kicked off with Laura Ellison's Collection, which was inspired by an old silk umbrella which belonged to her grandmother. Her collections comprised of beautiful, wearable dresses with a feminine, vintage feel. The full skirts, ruffles, draped silks, and cut-out details all stood out to me.

Next on the runway was Marie Clair Foley with her colourful, eye-catching collection which was inspired by birds. Marie Clair has a talent for silk painting, and unfortunately these photos don't do her stunning details justice. They really have to be seen up close to be fully appreciated! I would wear every piece in her collection and am in love with the stripey maxi dress:)!

Jo King
was next up with her collection. Her designs all had a romantic, girly feel, but she says she likes them to have an edge. Another beautiful maxi dress and stunning use of fabric and colour.

The youngest of the group, Ruta Jonuskaite, showcased a vibrant collection of pieces inspired by Lady Gaga. Pretty dresses, lots of tulle, pearls and clever use of colour made this a very covetable collection and you can be sure you will hear this girls name again!

And finally, the winning collection belonged to Belinda Sullivan! Belinda studied Fashion Design in the Mallow College of Design and was inspired by the rocks, ruggedness and wilderness of the Burren, County Clare. I loved her combination of ruffles and smart tailoring, and her muted colour palette with pops of vibrant green. My favourite is the shorts and hoodie outfit, I would wear that in a heartbeat!

Guest Judge Mia O'Connell showcased her beautiful collection on the night.

Alongside Mia on the judging panel was fellow Irish Designer Claire O'Connor who also showcased her latest collection.

Last to hit the runway was top Cork fashion designer Cathy Jackson with her breathtaking collection.
